Gastronomy

Rich in flavors and aromas, the culinary from Algarve remounts to ancient times, with a strong Roman and Arabic heritage.

Being a land of fishermen facing the sea, the Algarve and its gastronomy emphasize fish and seafood dishes. Algarve offers you it’s slow coal grilled fish but also has recipes where the sea food zests are highlighted by various aromatic herbs and spices. You can opt for delicious fish or crustaceous “cataplanas”, where the food is cooked in a bronze casserole, a tuna steak “Algarve style” or a delicious octopus rice.

Algarve’s gastronomy was also blessed by the influence of its interior – mountains and ravines - where the abundant agriculture and wild plants, together with the meat production, helped creating scrumptious dishes. Try a traditional meat and chickpea stew, jugged hare or the quail stew.

As for sweets and deserts, almonds, figs and carobs have a strong role in the Algarve. All you need to do is add sugar and eggs to have truly amazing results. Among the temptations on offer you will discover Don Rodrigo, morgados and marzipan or almond delicacies shaped as little animals and fruits. Having to decide on which one to taste will be hard so chose the one that complements your meal. Don’t forget to savor one of the numerous wines from the Algarve. They are fruity, not too acid and have strong degrees.

To complete a brilliant and comforting food experience, try the famous medronho spirit distilled in the mountains and the fruit and honey liqueurs.

Pinmar Restaurant, with a fantastic view over the swimming pool and the gardens, you can taste some delicious specialties from the Algarve.
